How this estimate works
Each appliance upgrade is evaluated with the Phase 1 Appliance Upgrade Savings engine. Upgrades are applied first and capped at your total use; solar is then applied only to the units you still buy, and valued with the Phase 1 Solar ROI engine. Surplus solar earns nothing because no export rate is assumed.
Formula
- Upgrade saving = (old W − new W) × quantity × hours × 30 ÷ 1,000 kWh/month
- Useful solar = min(kW × kWh/kW/year × offset %, (baseline − upgrade saving) × 12)
- Payback = investment ÷ first-year net saving
Limitations
- A flat average rate is used; slabs, fixed charges and taxes are not modelled.
- Rated watts are an imperfect proxy for cycling appliances.
- Solar generation per kW is your own figure.
Data used
No official dataset is used. Formulas are reused from the Phase 1 Appliance Upgrade Savings and Solar ROI engines.

Frequently asked questions
Why is the combined saving less than upgrades plus solar separately?+
Once upgrades cut your use, solar has fewer bought units to replace. Counting both in full would save the same unit twice.
Where do I get generation per kW?+
From an installer's estimate or the Monthly Solar Generation calculator using your location's solar hours.
How accurate is this home energy savings plan?+
It will provide an indicative estimate based on your inputs and the stated assumptions. Actual results can vary by location, equipment, tariff, and usage.
Can I use the result to make a purchase?+
Use it as a starting point, then confirm current prices, specifications, eligibility, and site requirements with a qualified provider.
