How this estimate works
Each option's ownership cost is the value it loses (price − expected resale) plus loan interest paid while you own it, fuel, insurance and maintenance. Principal is not added again because it is already part of the price.
Formula
- Cost = (price − resale) + interest while owned + fuel + insurance + maintenance
- Fuel = km per year ÷ km/L × ₹/L × years
- Break-even extra used-car repairs = cost difference ÷ years
Limitations
- A used car's history, accidents and hidden faults are unknown to the calculator.
- Warranty, safety and reliability differences are not priced.
- Running costs are flat across the period.
Data used
No official dataset is used. Every rate, price and premium is entered by you or is a labelled, editable assumption.

Frequently asked questions
Why is the down payment not in the total?+
The whole price is already counted through depreciation. Adding the down payment or principal as well would count the same money twice.
How should I set used-car maintenance?+
Use a mechanic's inspection and add a buffer. The break-even figure shows how much extra repair cost would erase the used car's advantage.
How accurate is this new vs used car comparison?+
It will provide an indicative estimate based on your inputs and the stated assumptions. Actual results can vary by location, equipment, tariff, and usage.
Can I use the result to make a purchase?+
Use it as a starting point, then confirm current prices, specifications, eligibility, and site requirements with a qualified provider.
